Molding Methods

Three ways to build the same part

The right method depends on part configuration, size, and required volume. We will tell you which one gives you the best piece price and tooling investment for your program.

Compression Molding

A measured rubber preform is placed in a heated cavity and formed under pressure until it cures. Efficient tooling cost, well suited to larger cross sections and low to medium volumes.

Transfer Molding

Uncured rubber is loaded into a pot and pushed through sprues into a closed mold. Tighter dimensional control than compression and a good fit for parts with inserts.

Injection Molding

Material is heated to a plastic state and injected under high pressure into a closed mold, curing quickly and repeatably. Best economics on higher volume, more complex geometry.

Materials

A full range of elastomer compounds

Tell us the product being sealed, the temperature range, and the desired service life and we will recommend the compound. If you already have a specification, we build to it.

EPDM

Steam, hot water, ozone, and weather. A workhorse for outdoor parts, sanitary service, and many acids and caustics.

Silicone

Wide temperature range with FDA compliant grades available for food, beverage, and medical adjacent applications.

Neoprene

Balanced resistance to oils, weather, and moderate chemicals. A common general purpose choice for pads, bumpers, and grommets.

FKM / Viton

Fuels, solvents, and high temperature chemical service where standard compounds break down.

Buna-N (Nitrile)

Economical sealing for petroleum based fluids and general hydraulic and pneumatic hardware.

Natural Rubber & Specialty

High tensile and abrasion resistant natural rubber, plus metal detectable, low temperature, conductive, and custom durometer compounds.
